Halo Infinite to Introduce Third-Person Mode in November Update

TL;DR: Halo Infinite will debut an official third-person mode in November, marking a first for the Halo series. Announced by 343 Industries at the 2024 Halo World Championship, this mode will initially be available in Firefight mode, with potential expansion to PvP and Forge. While it's unclear if it extends to Campaign mode, the feature allows players to switch perspectives using Forge controls. This development, long desired by the modding community, rekindles excitement as fans anticipate further content updates following a slowdown in new releases this year.

Upcoming Third-Person Mode for Halo Infinite

In fresh and exciting news for Halo enthusiasts, it has been unveiled that Halo: Infinite will be introducing a third-person mode in November. This announcement is surprising as it's the first-time official support for this mode is being introduced for a Halo game.

The Announcement and Preview of the New Mode

The revelation about the introduction of this third-person mode was made public by 343 Industries during a Forge panel at the 2024 Halo World Championship event held on Friday. It is noteworthy that fans who were unable to attend the event in person were briefed about this development through a post on X/Twitter. The post also included a sneak peek of work-in-progress footage of the third-person mode's gameplay.

Additional information about the new mode was provided during the Halo World Championship panel by John "Unyshek" Junyszek, the senior community manager, and Colin Cove, the senior software engineer at Skybox Labs. According to them, the third-person mode will initially be incorporated into the Firefight mode in an upcoming update. However, they have also hinted at the potential for it to be introduced in PvP and controlled in Forge.

Speculation and Praise for the Announcement

Junyszek and Cove have further elucidated that the third-person mode will have mode-level support and players can switch from the first-person perspective to the third-person perspective as per their preference with the Forge controls. Uncertainty still exists regarding the mode's availability in the Campaign mode, or its limitation to multiplayer only.

While this will be the first installment of an official third-person mode, numerous modders have experimented with this perspective in the past through modifications. These modifications have been substantially well-received by the game's community adding to the anticipation of this official release from the developers.

Originally launched in 2021, Halo Infinite has been supplemented with new additions including maps, modes, upgrades, improving the overall gaming experience. However, fans have noted a slowdown in the release of new content from the developers this year. Now, expectations are high that more Halo-centric announcements are on the way, particularly with the ongoing Halo World Championship.
