Destiny: Rising Enters Mobile Gaming with Exciting Alpha Announcement

TL;DR: Destiny: Rising, Bungie's latest venture with NetEase, aims to bring the renowned Destiny experience to mobile gaming by introducing a captivating alternate timeline centuries before Destiny 1 and 2. This free-to-play game will feature unique stories and characters, offering players a chance to explore the Destiny universe during its formative years. Familiar figures like Ikora Rey and Iron Lord Jolder will appear in a time before the traditional Guardian classes were established. Scheduled for a closed alpha on November 1, Destiny: Rising promises both PvP and PvE modes, including an exclusive "Shifting Gates" mode, as it seeks to attract global mobile gamers and Destiny fans alike. The game's success hinges on the response to this initial trial.

The Legendary Destiny Franchise Steps into Mobile Gaming

The renowned franchise of Destiny by Bungie takes a bold leap into the mobile gaming arena with the announcement of Destiny: Rising. This exciting venture is in partnership with NetEase, an experienced mobile game developer known for successful titles such as Dead by Daylight Mobile and Diablo Immortal. With the new free-to-play mobile initiative, they aim to encapsulate the dynamic Destiny experience for the global community of mobile gaming enthusiasts.

Expanded Expeditions into a New Destiny Universe

Destiny: Rising projects a captivating “alternate timeline” within the familiar Destiny universe. The game promises to unravel unique stories, intriguing characters, and distinct new capabilities, rekindling the excitement of the franchise for its followers. The reveal was complemented by an engrossing trailer incorporating “pre-alpha in-game capture” footage.

Destiny: Rising does not yet come with a launch date. However, the game is gearing up for its first exclusive alpha trial commencing on November 1. Prospective players can register to alpha test the game on iOS and Android devices. NetEase, together with the announcement trailer, launched a "Developer Preview", delivering insights into its ambitions for the mobile adaptation of the Destiny franchise.

A Dive into the Premise of Destiny: Rising

The alternate timeline of Destiny: Rising plots centuries prior to the events of Destiny 1 and 2, exploring a different projection of humanity's uprising from the aftermath of the Collapse, a period marked by invasions from cosmic forces that brought an end to a once-thriving era.

In this distinctive setting, the divine entity, the Traveler, wields its light to breathe life into the Ghosts. These Ghosts revive the fallen remnants of humanity, transforming them into Lightbearers – immortals endowed with bespoke abilities.

The narrative of our saga unfurls at a time when humanity is emerging from the shadows of past disasters and laying down the groundwork for the construction of the Last City. As survivors seek shelter, they conglomerate at outposts like the Haven, forging ahead towards a promising future while consolidating their forces against the surviving threats on Earth.

Meanwhile, the unique backdrop of Destiny: Rising offers players an exclusive chance to encounter the legendary Lightbearers of the franchise during their intriguing "formative years." Characters such as Ikora Rey, Iron Lord Jolder, and a youthful Kabr will make appearances within the game, giving players the opportunity to step into their shoes. NetEase's revelation that Destiny: Rising is set during a time "before the Guardians were fully defined, and the classes of Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks have not yet been solidified" suggests that players won't encounter the conventional Destiny 2 classes in the game. The closed alpha stage will feature 11 unique characters, with plans to incorporate more in the future.

Moreover, Destiny: Rising will extend beyond the Player vs. Environment (PvE) conflict, which forms the cornerstone of the Destiny gameplay model. NetEase assured fans that Player vs. Player (PvP) combat would find a place in the mobile adaptation of the franchise. The closed alpha phase will introduce players to "Shifting Gates", a new mode tailored specifically for the mobile version.

Will Destiny: Rising lure the player base of the original Destiny games to the heady allure of mobile gaming?  Would you prefer to just have a cross-play Destiny 2 Mobile add-on? The reception of the closed alpha phase will be crucial in determining the interest levels among the gaming community.
