Revamp of Call of Duty's Infamous Issue Upcoming Prior to Black Ops 6 Release

In preparation for the forthcoming launch of Black Ops 6, contentious aspects of the Call of Duty franchise, pertinent to install sizes, preloads, separate downloads, and space management, are being addressed. Historically, these have been sources of disruption and obscurity within the CoD HQ, culminating in a disconcerting user experience.

Pending Update Set to Streamline Experience for Players

In an effort to rectify this ongoing issue, an impending upgrade that enhances one of the primary bottlenecks in recent years is expected next week, prior to the premiere of Black Ops 6. It is the catalyst in the process of renovating the notoriously cumbersome user interface (UI) of Call of Duty HQ, set to go live on Monday with the preloads for BO6 at 11 am CT. CoD HQ, the core of the franchise, sheltering various titles from the past years, dating back to 2019, is anticipated to operate more fluidly, presenting an intuitively navigable experience, thereby addressing a frequently mentioned grievance amongst players.

User Interface Evolution: Simplifying Interaction and Accessibility

From Monday's download onwards, an evolutionary process in the UI of the launcher kicks off. On launching CoD HQ post-update, a newly incorporated tab will exhibit several game tiles of installed CoD games. This will include a featured tile displaying a selection of relevant high-ranking content such as game modes, maps, and Battle Passes. Elements like a 'What’s Hot' row providing quick access to a compilation of playlists and bundles, and an easily accessible 'Last Played' tile are also due to be included, paving the way for simpler navigation and increased usability.

Within this update, MW3 and Warzone will stand prominent within the Home tab. The main title, conversely, is set to shift towards BO6 post-launch, with its final iteration featuring BO6 and Warzone, followed by a battle pass tab and an overhaul to Warzone’s UI, expected to mirror its BO6 counterpart, come December. Simultaneously, the free-to-play battle royale, Warzone, will be made available as an independent download, providing relief to players exclusively committed to Warzone and saving substantial hard drive space. Resultantly, Warzone titles will no longer form a part of BO6 default downloads, and all game facets, including campaign and Zombies, can be installed or uninstalled with ease through UI or console management settings.

Despite an apparent preference for distinct CoD games being available as standalone apps rather than operating through CoD HQ, this upcoming update serves to enhance the experience within the existing framework. Activision remains resolute in its stance of maintaining the CoD HQ model for a variety of practical reasons such as updating expediency and download size optimization. The aforementioned updates coincide with the BO6 preloads, scheduled to go live on Monday, October 21 at 11 am CT. Meanwhile, the global release of BO6 is slated for October 25, with region and platform-specific digital releases at varying times.
