Official Gameplay Trailer Unveils FBC: Firebreak, A New Remedy Game in the 'Control' Universe

Remedy Entertainment has officially announced the development of a new multiplayer game, named "FBC: Firebreak," set in the intriguing "Control" universe. The debut trailer showcases fast-paced, first-person gameplay and features intense battles against a host of enemies. The new three-player cooperative game invites players to portray first responders from the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) engaged in conflicts against paranatural adversaries.

Not Your Typical Control Game: An Innovative Co-Op Experience

"FBC: Firebreak" is a significant departure from its predecessors in the "Control" series. As game director Mike Kayatta has noted in a subsequently published Xbox Wire post, "FBC: Firebreak" is not meant to be perceived as an extension of "Control" — neither as a DLC nor a sequel. Instead, Remedy presents it as an exhilarating multiplayer game that can be enjoyed with friends. Remedy conjures a more vibrant and colorful representation of the Control universe in this title. Players equipped with environmental suits employ paranatural augments, "Altered Item" tool attachments engineered by FBC, to wrestle with their opponents.

A Fresh Perspective on the World of 'Control'

The game breaks away from Remedy's tradition of single-player games. As Kayatta articulated, “We have always done single-player games at Remedy, and rest assured, we have more single-player games in development, but for a long time we have wanted to make a PvE multiplayer game." Claiming that the studio doesn’t want to persist with similar game types, the game invokes "new challenges" for the gaming community. "FBC: Firebreak" won't follow the routine of a typical live service game, assuring players a plethora of new content without pressurizing them to log in every day for loot. It will explore new narratives within the "Control" world through an alternative strategy, promising more from the Federal Bureau of Control and the intriguing Oldest House. However, the game also aspires to be more than just a replication of "Control." As Kayatta elaborated, the game aims to present familiar aspects, such as Control's world, its characters, and lore, from an entirely new perspective. News of the new release comes alongside advances on "Control 2," currently in the conceptual design stage, and new DLC for "Alan Wake 2." As for "FBC: Firebreak," fans can look forward to its release in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and PC platforms, with availability on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
