Underwhelming Launch of Destiny 2 Episode Revenant's Act 1

Release day for the highly-anticipated Destiny 2 Episode Revenant’s first Act was met with unequivocal disappointment on October 8th. Various promises regarding the gameplay were made by Bungie, the Game Developer - the most prominent being the completion of the entire story, in one go. However, players were left disillusioned as they didn't require more than one go to end the story, to begin with.

The All Too Short Questline: A Disturbing Narrative

This first act turned out to be a short-lived affair, effectively ending in under an hour, leaving dedicated Destiny 2 lovers seeking an immersive experience, feeling short-changed by the sparse storyline. Frustrated and exasperated, players voiced their discontent on the popular platform Reddit via the r/DestinyTheGame Reddit.

The supposedly gripping story missions received criticism as they failed to captivate players. The narrative suffered from multiple immersion-breaking elements: from Eramis's painstakingly slow movement in the introductory mission to holoprojector messages that lacked the desired personal connection. The concluding mission set on the reprised Kell's Grave map featured in the new Onslaught: Salvation quite literally felt like a shooting or talking mission with NPCs, delivering one carriable apart from battling a handful of foes.

Potential Redemption on the Horizon

In spite of the disappointment, the seasonal questline's silver lining was the notable absence of unnecessary filler quest steps such as looping players to engage in the seasonal activity or repetitive chore-based tasks, barring a few very brief Fieldwork missions. Some players seemed to appreciate this aspect, preferring it to countless dialogues interrupted by recurring seasonal tasks.

Meanwhile, the gaming community keenly looks forward to the release of the new dungeon, Vesper's Host, on October 11th. The launch also introduces an official Dungeon Race for the first time, where any participant who conquers the dungeon in contest mode, stands to receive the coveted Ice Breaker Exotic sniper rifle as a guaranteed reward. Additionally, the players can bank on the reprised Garden of Salvation weapons and multiple seasonal ones for gratifying grinding sessions.
