[Discussion] Ubisoft Postpones Release of Highly Anticipated Mobile Games Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence

Recommended Posts

Delays for Ubisoft's Upcoming Mobile Offerings

Ubisoft, the acclaimed game studio, has announced a postponement in the release dates of Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence, two highly anticipated free-to-play mobile shooter games. According to its first-quarter earnings report, despite a strong start to the financial year, these games were initially set to launch before the close of this financial year, which ends on March 31st, 2025. Yet, they have now been shifted further along the timeline to allow the development teams adequate time to fulfill the steep expectations in a challenging yet massive market.

The two titles, categorized as "triple-A" mobile games, were first publicized in 2022 and have since had closed beta testing.

Ubisoft's Quarterly Performance and Success Stories

Despite the recent setbacks, Ubisoft is optimistic about its Q1 results. The publisher maintains that it had a positive start to the financial year, achieving net bookings above the targeted numbers, an indication it is on the right path following its previous year's disappointing performance.

A considerable portion of its Q1 triumph can be credited to the launch of the free-to-play shooter XDefiant in May. The game has had an uplifting start, drawing a player base of 10 million in its first fortnight. Likewise, other games like Rainbow Six Siege experienced significant yearly growth in player activity and monetization, and The Crew Motorfest maintained steady engagement levels.

Continued Success and Future Plans

Assassin’s Creed has been a consistent performer for Ubisoft. This quarter saw an uptick in sales following the announcement of the Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Even the critically criticized Skull and Bones consistently proved its worth in engagement and annual revenue per user.

Ubisoft reports that its net bookings for the quarter amount to $315m, surpassing its target of $299m. As for upcoming projects, Ubisoft claims it is premature to discuss the next financial year. However, they have revealed that Anno 117: Pax Romana, a new addition to its popular strategy series, is slated for a 2025 release. Also coming up are Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows, scheduled for launch on August 30th and November 15th respectively.
